Dr. Jonathan Farley

About

Dr. Jonathan David Farley is an internationally recognized mathematician and academic leader. He graduated summa cum laude from Harvard University with the second-highest grade point average in his graduating class, later earning his doctorate in mathematics from Oxford University in 1995. While at Oxford, he was awarded the university’s highest graduate mathematics honors: the Senior Mathematical Prize and the Johnson University Prize (1994). He was also named a Fulbright Distinguished Scholar to the United Kingdom in 2001, one of only four Americans to receive the honor that year.

Dr. Farley’s academic appointments include associate professor with tenure at Vanderbilt University and a science fellow at Stanford University’s Center for International Security and Cooperation. Additionally, he has served as a Visiting Associate Professor of Applied Mathematics at MIT, a Visiting Scholar at Harvard University, and a Visiting Professor of Mathematics at Caltech.

Recognized widely for his scientific achievements and public impact, Dr. Farley was named the Harvard Foundation’s Distinguished Scientist of the Year in 2004, an honor commemorated by the City of Cambridge, Massachusetts, declaring March 19, 2004, as “Dr. Jonathan David Farley Day.” He was featured by Seed Magazine as one of “15 people who have shaped the global conversation about science,” awarded the Key to the City of Columbia, South Carolina, and praised by author Danica McKellar as “the incomparable, brilliant Jonathan Farley” in her New York Times bestseller Hot X: Algebra Exposed. Beyond academia, he founded Hollywood Math and Science Film Consulting, advising major television series and feature films, including Numb3rs and Medium.
