About

Steven Pruitt is a worldwide authority in records management and digital archiving. Over the years, he has earned global acknowledgment for his work. Specifically, he focuses on the preservation and curation of knowledge in the digital realm. On the internet, he is famously known as Ser Amantio di Nicolao. This pseudonym references a character in Giacomo Puccini’s 1918 opera Gianni Schicchi.

To date, Pruitt holds the definitive record as the most prolific editor of the English Wikipedia. In fact, he has made nearly 7 million edits. He has also created over 33,000 articles since his very first contribution in 2004. Remarkably, he has contributed to nearly one-third (33%) of all English-language articles on the platform. Because of this massive digital influence, Time Magazine named him one of the top 25 most influential people on the Internet.

Advocacy for Digital Equity

Beyond creating pure volume, Pruitt actively advocates for digital equity. For instance, he works closely with the global Women in Red project. This initiative aims to eliminate gender bias across the digital space. Through this crucial work, he helps advance the recognition of women’s historical and contributory roles in society.

Federal Records Management Expertise

Professionally, Pruitt works as a Records Management (RM) Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the U.S. Department of State. In this role, he manages complex RM compliance protocols. He also structures information architecture to support critical business functions.

Additionally, his long-term career with the federal government consists of a variety of strategic analyst positions. For example, he previously served as an RM analyst for the Defense Health Agency (DHA). Before that, he was an RM specialist at Customs and Border Protection (CBP). He also worked as a real property data analyst for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

Pruitt is a certified records authority who speaks fluent French. His specific areas of expertise include auditing record systems and reconciling complex data sets. Furthermore, he specializes in protecting personally identifiable information (PII). He is also eligible to hold a secret Department of Defense (DoD) clearance. Ultimately, his extensive background brings a unique perspective to the academic community regarding crowdsourced information strategy and the future of public knowledge.
